Absolutely Fabulous Provence with Jane Satow

April 21 – 28, 2024

Join chef Jane Satow of “La Cuisine Provencal” for an absolutely fabulous week of culinary experiences in Provence.

Provence is a food lovers paradise. Jane Satow is a passionate Francophile who enthusiastically shares her great love the cuisine, wine and food culture of Provence. Having lived in St Remy de Provence for over 20 years, she will be introducing you to her favorite local market vendors, to the best ingredients, and to the wines of the one of the most prestigious locations, Chateauneuf-du-Pape.

Sunday, April 21  :  Welcome to Provence !
Transfers will be arranged to pick you up at Avignon TGV high speed train station or at Marseille airport to take you to the fabulous 5 star  boutique hotel Le St Remy .  You’ll have time to settle into your luxurious room, head to the spa or go for a café or glass of rosé at one of the nearby cafés.     Jane and Nancy  will greet you at 6pm  for cocktails followed by a scrumptious welcome dinner at the hotel.

Monday, April 22 : Uzès, Pont du Gard & Châteauneuf du Pape
You’ll board a comfortable coach for a full day exploring the area near Chateauneuf du Pape beginning with a guided tour of Uzès which will include the  the Ducal Palace, also known as the Duchy. Owned by the same family for over 450 years, you may get lucky and run into the Duke. Lunch will be at one of our favorite restaurants  in Uzès, @Villa Curti. Before heading to Chateauneuf du Pape, you’ll be stunned to discover  incredibly well preserved architectural wonder and UNESCO heritage site, the Pont du Gard.  In Chateauneuf du Pape, you’ll be taken to a cellar to taste some of the best wines the region has to offer followed by a fully private culinary experience and dinner in the cellar.

French markets are a thrill and the one in Gordes is particularly appealing at it is set at the foot of the castle.  You’ll have some free time to browse while Jane picks up food items at the market for our picnic lunch.  Before heading back to St Remy for your culinary workshop, you’ll have time to walk the magnificent Occre path in Roussillon.
After some free time at the hotel,  you’ll don your apron at Jane’s charming kitchen in the historical center of St Remy de Provence,  La Cuisine Provencale for a class with Jane’s favorite local Chef Yvan Gilardi who will be teaching a class with a seasonal gastronomic menu and southern Rhone wine pairings by Jane.   He is not only a terrific gastronomic chef who loves to make use of the fresh local produce, he’s also great fun and a good teacher.

Wednesday, April 24 : Saint Rémy de Provence
Just a few steps from your hotel, you’ll be enchanted by  the scents, flavors, colors, cheeses, oils,  fabrics and crafts  at the lively market in St Remy de Provence. For lunch there is a wide choice of restaurants, cafés and bistros for you to chose from.  We’ll meet after lunch for a visit to the Saint Paul de Mausole monastery formerly an asylum where Van Gogh committed himself for treatment after leaving Arles. Van Gogh spent a year at the sanitarium and painted some of his most noted works, including Starry Nights. His presence is felt throughout the building and in the gardens.   Back at the hotel, a St Remy champion pétanque player will initiate you to the game while sipping the local anis based liqueur called “pastis”.
