Provence is a food lovers paradise. Jane Satow is a passionate Francophile who enthusiastically shares her great love the cuisine, wine and food culture of Provence. Having lived in St Remy de Provence for over 20 years, she will be introducing you to her favorite local market vendors, to the best ingredients, and to the wines of the one of the most prestigious locations, Chateauneuf-du-Pape.
Sunday, April 21 : Welcome to Provence !
Transfers will be arranged to pick you up at Avignon TGV high speed train station or at Marseille airport to take you to the fabulous 5 star boutique hotel Le St Remy . You’ll have time to settle into your luxurious room, head to the spa or go for a café or glass of rosé at one of the nearby cafés. Jane and Nancy will greet you at 6pm for cocktails followed by a scrumptious welcome dinner at the hotel.
Monday, April 22 : Uzès, Pont du Gard & Châteauneuf du Pape
You’ll board a comfortable coach for a full day exploring the area near Chateauneuf du Pape beginning with a guided tour of Uzès which will include the the Ducal Palace, also known as the Duchy. Owned by the same family for over 450 years, you may get lucky and run into the Duke. Lunch will be at one of our favorite restaurants in Uzès, @Villa Curti. Before heading to Chateauneuf du Pape, you’ll be stunned to discover incredibly well preserved architectural wonder and UNESCO heritage site, the Pont du Gard. In Chateauneuf du Pape, you’ll be taken to a cellar to taste some of the best wines the region has to offer followed by a fully private culinary experience and dinner in the cellar.
Tuesday, April 23 : Gordes & Roussillon
French markets are a thrill and the one in Gordes is particularly appealing at it is set at the foot of the castle. You’ll have some free time to browse while Jane picks up food items at the market for our picnic lunch. Before heading back to St Remy for your culinary workshop, you’ll have time to walk the magnificent Occre path in Roussillon.
After some free time at the hotel, you’ll don your apron at Jane’s charming kitchen in the historical center of St Remy de Provence, La Cuisine Provencale for a class with Jane’s favorite local Chef Yvan Gilardi who will be teaching a class with a seasonal gastronomic menu and southern Rhone wine pairings by Jane. He is not only a terrific gastronomic chef who loves to make use of the fresh local produce, he’s also great fun and a good teacher.
Wednesday, April 24 : Saint Rémy de Provence
Just a few steps from your hotel, you’ll be enchanted by the scents, flavors, colors, cheeses, oils, fabrics and crafts at the lively market in St Remy de Provence. For lunch there is a wide choice of restaurants, cafés and bistros for you to chose from. We’ll meet after lunch for a visit to the Saint Paul de Mausole monastery formerly an asylum where Van Gogh committed himself for treatment after leaving Arles. Van Gogh spent a year at the sanitarium and painted some of his most noted works, including Starry Nights. His presence is felt throughout the building and in the gardens. Back at the hotel, a St Remy champion pétanque player will initiate you to the game while sipping the local anis based liqueur called “pastis”. Dinner will be at Le Bistrot de St Remy.
Thursday, April 25 : Le Cadenet & Aix en Provence
Today you will travel to a private property in Le Cadenet to participate in an informative and entertaining hunt where you will watch dogs sniff out truffles. The dogs will get a reward and so will you with champagne and lunch including truffle based delicacies. After lunch, you’ll be taken on a guided tour of lovely Aix en Provence. Dinner will be at a typical french brasserie Le Marilyn in St Rémy de Provence
Friday, April 26 Eygalieres and cooking with Jane Satow
Your day will start at the beautiful Provencal market in the nearby village of Eygalières. Jane will introduce you to local food producers and purveyors, the people that make the food so special in Provence. You’ll collect ingredients together for the cooking workshop that will follow in Jane’s “La Cuisine Provencale”. Dinner this evening will be at your leisure.
Saturday, April 27 Les Baux de Provence, Pater Mayle, Beaumanière
Today you will travel along a picturesque route to the Carrière des Lumières that sits below the village of Les Baux de Provence. You will walk through the cavernous quarry, transformed into a spectacular art gallery to experience an audio- visual masterpiece. Lunch will be at the iconic Le Bistrot du Paradou where Peter Mayle minglesd with the locals. After lunch, you will have free time t pack, enjoy the spa or do some last minute shopping. As all good things must come to an end, you’ll be having farewell bubbles at the hotel before heading to the fabulous the Cabro d’Or, Michelin starred Baumanière.
Sunday, April 28 : Au Revoir Provence
Time for your last croissant and to bid farewell to your new friends. Transfers to Avignon high speed train station or Marseille airport will be arranged with departures no later than 11am (check out time).
Optional add on : For lovers of antiques, we are arranging a day trip on April l28 to Isle sur la Sorgue, a small Provence town that transforms into an antique market every Sunday. on Sunday April 28 with a stop in Avignon for a guided tour on the way to the high speed train station in the afternoon.
