Elegant Aix-en-Provence and the charming seaside resort Cassis
You start the day in Aix-en-Provence: visit of the city with its sumptuous 17th and 18th architecture, its nice terraces, its lovely streets with fountains There will most likely be a farmer’s market or one of the most popular provençal markets. The multitude of stalls will be laden with local and seasonal food items including, olive oil, goat cheese, Provencal herbs, as well as olive oil based soaps, Provençal fabrics, potteries which are all great gift ideas “made in Provence”. Your guide will focus on the painter Cezanne who was born in the town. Both of my children were born in Aix and both went to the same school as Cezanne. You will take a scenic road going to the Mountain which was one of the favorite subjects of the painter. This is a very spectacular and impressive place. A wine tasting is possible in a lovely winery at the foot of the mountain if this is of interest to you.
The afternoon will be spent in Cassis where an optional 45 in boat outing will be offered (weather permitting, 16 euros pp) to admire the famous cliffs that plunge into the Med called the “calanques”.
Your guide knows the area very well and may take you for surprise tasting or to try some of the famous “eau de Cassis” perfume in a chic niche shop.
As you will be in Cassis, also time permitting, a stop can be arranged at a winery for a tasting of their sumptuous white wines.
Cost is 700 euros for the day (lunch not included).
